Video shows how gang in police uniform robbed petrol station in Machakos
Petrol station attendants report seeing a gang in police uniforms who reportedly harassed and robbed them.
According to the attendants, a gang of five men walked into the Trinity NRG petrol station which is located in Malaa, Matungulu Sub-county.
CCTV footage from the petrol station shows the gang in uniforms similar to those worn by Administration Police officers, approaching a service station attendant, before dragging him into their offices.
“We were setting alarms at around 1.00 am. We thought they were police officers. They slapped me and took my money and phone," Amos Lukwisa, a service station attendant said.
Lukwise told police officers from KBC station that he was threatened and told to cooperate with the gang.
"It is then that they asked him whether he knew them and thus responded that they were police officers. He was then hit and ordered to lie down. They then took his wallet stole kshs1000 that was in his pocket," a police report reads.
The robbers then dragged the second attendant and the security guard before forcing them to surrender all valuables.
They then attempted to break into the office safe but were unsuccessful and made away with Ksh. 5,144 in cash.
They were dressed in police uniforms, full combat and dotted caps. They had masks, only eyes could be seen. The said if I try to fight they would finish me. They pushed me and tied my hands and legs," Alex Munywoki, a security guard explained.
Another attendant, John Manthi said they were rescued by the security company officers as they had earlier put the alarm on.
“They took my phone. Around 10 minutes later, SGA team came. They (gang) jumped through the fence and ran away," Manthi added.
Surprisingly, the Trinity petrol station is approximately a kilometre away from the KBC police station.
Officers from the KBC police station have since recorded statements as investigations commence.
This is not an isolated case, in April this year, a similar incident happened at Delta petrol station in Nguluni involving robbers in police uniforms.
The gang claimed they were officers and that a person had gone to report an assault by a fuel attendant and had come to do a follow-up.
They then took all the workers locked them in the washrooms then tried to break into the safe through the wall but were unsuccessful.
