Veteran news anchor Njoroge Mwaura dies

Veteran television
news anchor Njoroge Mwaura is dead.
The journalist, who worked
for KTN News for a long time, passed away at a Nairobi hospital while undergoing
treatment, his family said.
Mwaura became a
household name in Kenya for his eloquent news presentation and reporting on major
political and socio-economic stories, and was highly regarded in the media
fraternity.
He has been mourned as
an inspirational figure who mentored many upcoming journalists.
“He inspired so many of us who ventured
into news media,” sports journalist Carol Radull wrote on X, while former investigative
journalist Dennis Onsarigo described him as an “approachable journalist who was
readily available for consultations.”
“The media industry will remember Njoroge
as an inspiring media personality who had a deep understanding of the media
landscape,” he said.
Eliud Owalo, the Deputy
Chief of Staff at the Executive Office of the President in charge of
Performance and Delivery Management, said Mwaura “will always be remembered for
his exemplary journalism and sharp insights, especially through his iconic
segment, "Njoroge's Notebook," where he tackled critical national
issues of his time.”
“Alongside Catherine
Kasavuli, Njoroge redefined the 9:00 pm news, creating a dynamic partnership
that set a gold standard for broadcast journalism in Kenya,” Owalo said,
referring to the late legendary news anchor who passed away in December 2022.
