Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has stated that the process of filling vacant chief and assistant chief positions is already underway.

The Interior Minister stated in plenary on Wednesday that there is currently a plan in place to recruit and interview candidates for the aforementioned positions.

He added that for places where interviews have been concluded, the positions will be filled within 90 days.

"The vacancies are a result of natural attrition, dismissal from service for officers after their cases have been concluded by the Courts or Public Service Commission, and there are no pending appeals before the Courts, promotion of the officeholders to higher offices, resignation and redesignation of the officer holders," Kindiki told the House.

Kindiki went on to say that the process of filling vacant positions is governed by the Scheme of Service for Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs, as well as the Service Regulations.

The regulations cite that once a unit falls vacant, the process of filling the same is commenced through a five-step process.

It starts with The declaration of the vacant position then an advertisement of the vacant position is made which is then followed by interviewing the applicants.

The fourth step is making submissions for the appointments ad finally successful applicants are appointed.

The appointments will allow a seamless administration structure in the 8 Regions countrywide, 47 Counties, 378 Sub Counties, 982 Divisions, 3,955 Locations and 9,045 Sub Locations.
