US Ambassador Whitman says textile industry a big growth opportunity for Kenya
Speaking while on a tour of Moi University main campus, Whitman said over 200,000 people are employed in the industry and there is need to boost it further to employ more people.
“We remain excited about manufacturing in Kenya. Kenya is underinvested in manufacturing, but textile manufacturing is a big growth area for Kenya,” said Ambassador Whitman.
Whitman at the same time said the American embassy will follow up on infrastructure and housing development in the county as an area of concern in economic growth.
She highlighted green cooking and green energy an area of interest especially in environmental conservation.
“We have had a very good discussion and we will try to follow up on some of the most important investment. Green energy is another big opportunity for Uasin Gishu,” she said.
At the same time, the US ambassador hailed Eldoret for gaining city status.
She also made a visit to neighbouring Trans Nzoia County where she met members of the civil society.
