University funding: Student issued Ksh.83K in confusion over stranger’s details shown in her account
A number of the learners have been affected negatively by the funding model that has elicited mixed reactions from education stakeholders and other members of the public.
Tracy Stacy Nembi, a student in Bomet University is among the victims of this funding model. She applied and qualified for Ksh.83,000 funding but has not received the money.
In the university funding portal, personal details of a student from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University appear under her account while her personal details are missing.
Stacy said she qualified for Ksh.83, 000, but the portal, which has details of another student indicates that the government has sent Ksh.63, 000 to the student whose details appear. She is yet to know why somebody’s details appear in her account.
Though she qualified for Ksh.83, 000, Stacy says the money has not been sent to the university account.
In her first semester, she was not able to do all the examination papers because of the unpaid school fees amounting to Ksh.83, 000 which is supposed to be paid by the government.
Her father, Lameck Nembi was forced to sell a piece of his land to send the Ksh.83,000 balance after the government failed to send the money.
