Uhuru’s son Jomo drops case after gov’t agrees not to interfere with his firearms

Former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s son, John Jomo Kenyatta.

Former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s son Jomo has dropped a case he filed against the State last year over the government’s bid to revoke his firearms license.

The Attorney General, through State counsel Munene Wanjohi, on Wednesday said they had consented with Mr Kenyatta’s team through his lawyer Fred Ngatia.

This is after the State agreed the Firearms Licencing Board would not interfere with the former president’s son’s firearm license.

“By consent, this matter is marked as settled; That the first and second respondents do not intend to withdraw and or interfere with the applicant's firearm license(s); That the 1st and 2nd respondents shall abide with the procedure set out in the Firearms Act in dealing with the applicant,” read a consent adopted by High Court Judge Jairus Ngaah.

Jomo moved to court after police officers stormed his home in Karen, Nairobi on July 21, 2023, demanding he surrender the firearms he owns.

But he moved to court and sued the chief licensing officer, the Firearms Licensing Board and the Attorney General, arguing the process was unconstitutional.
