Uhuru wishes peace and unity for Kenyans as he marks 63rd birthday
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has appealed to Kenyans to
remain peaceful and united for the nation to move forward.
Kenyatta spoke in a mobile interview with one of the Radio
stations on Saturday as he celebrated his 63rd birthday.
In a general message to Kenyans, the fourth
president advocated for harmony, as the ultimate goal to achieve individual and national success.
He implored citizens to shun divisive politics which lead to
dissension and discord among people, urging everyone to love one another.
“I am grateful to God for the many years he has given me,
for all that he has done and we continue to pray for peace that we may remain
united as a nation,” he said.
“Siku hizi mimi siongei jameni but I just want to wish peace
and unity on all Kenyans. Tujue sisi wote ni binadamu, tuna mahitaji, tuwache
mambo ya kuzozana, kuingililiana mbali tushikane na tupendane kama wakenya
ndipo tuweze kusonga mbele kwa pamoja,” he said.
On his plans for the day, Kenyatta said he would just spend the day with friends at Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire, where he is currently attending the 15th High-Level Retreat that aims to promote peace and stability within the continent.
Kenyatta however noted that he had always marked his
previous birthdays by spending time with his close family members and friends.
“I celebrate the day with the family, children,
grandchildren and friends but for this one, I have travelled na bado tuko kwa
ile mikutano ilinileta hapa but I know after the event ends, we may go somewhere
with friends,” he noted.
On his favourite food, Kenyatta confirmed that 'Nyama Choma' had always been his favourite meal, but it was unhealthy for him now, owing to his age.
Kenyatta recently resurfaced following months of widespread claims that he had been ailing.
