Uhuru, Mama Ngina mourn Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima
In a condolence message to family and friends of the Field Marshal, Uhuru described Muthoni, also known as Nyina wa Thonjo, as a patriot, a great warrior and one of the most revered Mau Mau shujaa freedom fighters.
Uhuru acknowledged her diligence and dedication, saying she will be remembered not only for her courage but also for her unwavering commitment to Kenya.
“Her footprints, especially in the forest, molded and played a crucial role in supporting like-minded leaders, in the fight of freeing our country from the colonialists and for Kenyans’ rights of political, social and economic growth towards our country’s freedom, independence, and development,” he euologised.
On her part, Mama Ngina Kenyatta mourned the heroine and reminisced on their encounters.
"I cherish the memory and joy that we, Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima and myself and others, met in the recent past and shared many stories together."
She expressed gratitude for the privilege of standing alongside Muthoni during the challenging and tumultuous period of the colonial government, a time that tested the resilience and courage of many, including the deceased.
The former First Lady pointed out that Kenya owes a debt of gratitude to all the Mau Mau freedom fighters, who, through their selflessness, dedication, and sacrifice, paved the way for the freedom and prosperity we enjoy today.
"Fare thee well and rest in peace, Mau Mau shujaa freedom fighter, Field Marshall Muthoni wa Kirima, nyina wa thonjo," Kenyatta said as he bid farewell to Muthoni wa Kirima.
