Uhuru lists his three biggest regrets as 10-year term nears end
The impasse concerns whether Kenya should use the current system in which county administrations are allowed to handle huge amounts of money, or whether we should follow the proposal which allocates revenues proportionally based on the population of each county.
The Head of State was speaking to vernacular stations drawn from Central Kenya in a round-table discussion on Sunday.
During the discussion, President Kenyatta revisited the failure of the BBI, which he backed with his handshake partner, Raila Odinga, saying the well-meant project was derailed by quarters who were spreading propaganda.
"Those were lies meant to hoodwink people into shooting the BBI down, they lied that I wanted to extend my tenure, now look, I'm I not going home,?" Uhuru said.
"Those were lies to make you hate a person so that you would not look at what BBI was meant to bring to them and their families, but that is now history,"
The Head of State listed the failure of the handshake to unite Kenya in its entirety as his second biggest regret.
The Head of State said although the handshake had brought peace to the country, it had yet to unite the entire country.
"The handshake brought peace, yes but it failed to unite the entire country, I hope those come after me can continue pursuing peace," he added.
The presidents's third biggest regret, he said, was that he failed to achieve a country where people would be judged, not by their ethnicity or background but by what they bring to the table.
With the August 9 General Election heralding the end of his 10-year tenure president Uhuru also spoke about what he would miss from the State House.
According to the Head of State, he would not miss the buildings but the people he had the chance of rubbing shoulders with during his term in office.
