Uhuru launches National Defence University-Kenya in Nakuru
President Uhuru
Kenyatta on Wednesday presided over the inauguration of the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) at the Kenya Military
Academy in Lanet, Nakuru County.
Speaking during the ceremony, the head of
state said the institution would be vital in promoting national security since
it would be an educational centre for training security personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
“The National
University will act as a national think-tank and shall play an active role in
transforming our peace and national frameworks for posterity,” said President
Kenyatta.
“The establishment of the University with its objectives to promote a high-quality learning experience will go a long way in strengthening Kenya’s position not only as an education hub but a centre for security training,” he added.
According to the
president, NDU-K brings together specialized colleges and
will be run by national security organizations.
Having been chartered
in May 2021, NDU-K now becomes the first of its kind in East
and Central Africa to offer cutting-edge undergraduate and postgraduate studies
in security-related courses.
