Ugandan nanny behind daring Eastleigh robbery captured on CCTV arrested
Detectives in Nairobi have arrested a Ugandan maid involved in
a daring robbery that was captured on CCTV two months ago at Ushirika Towers in
Eastleigh.
The 23-year-old suspect
identified as Nabalayo Everline Loice, alias Eva, was nabbed by officers
from Starehe at Kariokor while attempting to escape on a bus
bound for Uganda.
The Directorate of
Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday revealed that in the November 3, 2024 incident, Nabalayo who was at the time in the company of a colleague's house
help intentionally opened the door for an unknown assailant armed with a
hammer.
The man who is also suspected to be a Ugandan national reportedly
used the hammer to gain entry into the building and accessed the sixth-floor
apartment.
Together with Nabalayo,
the pair grievously assaulted the 20-year-old Somali house help named Hakimo
Muhidin, inflicting serious body injuries including a broken tooth and trauma
to her hand, head, and legs.
“In a shocking turn of
events, the duo reportedly assaulted the other maid, leaving her for dead in
the bathroom,” DCI stated.
Consequently, the two made
away with gold jewellery valued at Ksh.210,000, a Lenovo XY laptop worth
Ksh.110,000, and an Infinix phone priced at Ksh.15,000.
Nabalayo is currently in
police custody undergoing processing, pending arraignment as police continue to
pursue her accomplice.
At the time of the robbery, the tenant, a Somali man, was not
at home, as he was out with his children, while his wife was reportedly in
India for medical treatment.
