UDA summons Karen Nyamu over Dubai drama, says it brought shame to the party
The United Democratic Alliance
(UDA) Party has summoned nominated senator Karen Nyamu over a viral video which
showed her in a public altercation at a party in Dubai.
Through a letter dated Monday,
December 19, the President William Ruto-led party summoned the legislator for a
disciplinary hearing, saying her conduct brought shame to the party and injured
its reputation.
“In the said incident which is well captured
on video that has been widely circulated in both mainstream and social media,
your conduct and mannerism as exhibited in that incident has brought shame,
disrepute and lowered the dignity of the party which nominated you to the
office of Senator,” said the UDA disciplinary committee chairperson, Charles
Njenga.
“Article 73 of the
Constitution of Kenya as read together with the code of conduct of the party
and your oath of office, delineate with clarity the expected conduct of a
member of the party who has been afforded the opportunity to serve in public
office, to represent the party at the Senate and the general public.”
Nyamu was ordered to
appear before the disciplinary committee on Friday, December, 23 at 9:30am at the party’s
headquarters at Hustler Plaza in Nairobi.
“In accordance with Article 29 (xiii) you may represent yourself in person or appear with an advocate of the High Court of Kenya,” the letter read.
In a video seen by Citizen Digital on
Saturday, the nominated Senator was seen engaging in a scuffle that involved Mugithi
Singer Samuel Muchoki (Samidoh) and his wife Edith Nderitu.
Nyamu would later own her mistake, saying
she has broken up with Samidoh, who is the father of her two children.
She added that she intends to quit alcohol
in 2023, which she termed as one of the causes for the scuffle that occurred at
a club in Dubai where Samidoh was performing.
