UDA SG Hassan Omar rubbishes Malala's claim of plot to impeach DP Gachagua
Newly installed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary
General Hassan Omar has fired back at his predecessor Cleophas Malala over his
recent criticism of the ruling party’s officials.
In a heavily worded statement on Friday, Omar rubbished
Malala’s claims of unfair removal reiterating that the latter was lawfully ousted
from his position over incompetence.
He downplayed Malala’s claim of Majority Leader Kimani
Ichung'wah and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire orchestrating a plan to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, terming it as ‘political shenanigans’ meant
to seek sympathy from the party’s leadership.
The UDA SG cautioned Malala about dragging the names of the
two party officials to the mud and attempting to pit them against the deputy
president.
“We wish to caution Malala against roping the party and
particularly its Chairperson and the Majority Leader in the unfounded claim of
Deputy President's impeachment and seek his sympathies through any other means,”
Omar stated.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Malala was legally and
procedurally removed from office as the Secretary General of UDA, and the same
acknowledged and ratified by the Registrar of Political Parties. The office
subsequently effected the changes as required of it by law.”
He added: “We find it gross that he is now casting aspersions
on the part of the party's leadership, regrettably invoking the names of Party
Chairperson Governor Cecily Mbarire and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani
Ichung'wah in the purported impeachment.”
Omar warned of stern action against Malala and his
accomplices, underscoring that he would not be allowed to taint the image of
the ruling party.
“As a party, we find his behaviour unbecoming and
inappropriate for former SG Malala to drag her (Mbarire’s) name and that of the
Majority Leader in such an unfounded claim of the impeachment of the country's
Deputy President and he must be asked to stop this rave,” he noted.
“Let the authors and sponsors of this script perform their
poems and plays in other theatres of political deceit and sympathy seeking. The
wild performances of these political novices cannot deter the will of the party's
rank and file to steer the party on its set course of progress and
transformation as custodians of the people's mandate.”
According to the EALA MP, Malala's tenure at the helm of the
party leadership was marked by a series of incompetencies and the decision to
kick him was paramount.
“Malala’a colourless stint as Secretary General was
characterized by melodrama, toxicity, missteps, discord, ruin; a failed
leadership in all aspects. The party therefore does not wish to be drawn into
endless shenanigans recognizing its status as the party of the President, the
nation's ruling party,” he stated.
The remarks by Omar come after the UDA Founders
Association also issued a stern condemnation of the former Secretary General
and called for immediate disciplinary action against him following the
controversial remarks.
