UDA SG Cleophas Malala wants Wetangula, Kingi to resign from party positions
The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party now wants Senate
speaker Amason Kingi and his National Assembly counterpart Moses Wetangula to
resign from their party positions.
UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malala on Monday said the two
are not supposed participate in party politics due to their capacity as
State officials.
Wetangula is the FORD Kenya party leader while Kingi heads
the PAA party.
“He should resign and allow us to engage the next party
leader of FORD Kenya on matters dissolution. He cannot contribute because he is
a State officer and State officers are not allowed to contribute on matters
political parties and participate in politics. That is the position of the
constitution,” Malala said.
The Sec-Gen said the two should pave the way for new party leaders
who will engage the ruling party leadership in the proposed dissolution
of Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties to fold them into UDA.
“They are both lawyers, let them resign and allow us to engage the new party leaders and persuade them,” Malala said, adding, “These parties are as good as dissolved, it’s only that they have not accepted that they are no longer politically viable.”
He also had the same requests to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi (ANC party) and Foreign Affairs CS Alfred Mutua (Maendeleo Chapchap party).
At the same time, Malala, who assumed office last week taking over from Veronica Maina, dismissed critics who have already labelled him
President William Ruto’s hired gun.
“Yes, I am a gun-for-hire for William Ruto. I don’t care whatever
name you give me so long as my president in 2027 will be elected by a landslide
and so long as I achieve a super-majority as the ruling party in the next
parliament,” he said.
