UDA says plans by Fafi MP Yakub to abolish presidential term limit a 'product of a fertile imagination'
The President Ruto-led party dismissed claims by Fafi MP Salah Yakub as "a product of the legislator's fertile imagination " in a statement on Twitter.
The party also distanced itself from the MP's claims that a Bill to extend the presidential time limit was being drafted.
"The Party has not been part of discussions in regard to term limits. The Party is busy implementing The Plan and will not be part of sideshows," the UDA party said.
According to the MP, the contentious Bill would seek to cap the presidential age limit at 75 years, replacing the current two-term limit that went into effect ahead of the 1992 General Election.
According to Article 142 of the Constitution, the President shall hold office for a term beginning on the date of the inauguration and ending when the person next elected President is sworn in.
The 2010 constitution states that no person may serve as president for more than two terms.
