UDA invites applications for Mathira MP seat after Gachagua picked as Ruto’s running mate
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party
has declared the Mathira Parliamentary seat vacant following the recent
appointment of incumbent MP Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President William Ruto’s
running mate ahead of the August polls.
The DP
Ruto-led party made the announcement on Tuesday as it called for interested
members to submit their applications before Friday, May 20, 2022.
“On 15th
May 2022, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua the UDA Candidate for a member of National
Assembly Mathira constituency was nominated as the UDA presidential candidate,”
read the statement by UDA’s National Elections Board (NEB) chairperson Anthony
Mwaura.
“As a
result, he will not be contesting for the Member of Parliament seat Mathira
constituency. In view of this development, the UDA party now invites
applications from aspirants interested in contesting for this position within
the next three days from the date of this notice.”
Before
his appointment as the Kenya Kwanza coalition running mate, Gachagua had served
as the Mathira MP since 2013 when he was elected under the Jubilee Party.
