UASU asks its members to abscond duty on Monday until they are paid
University Academic Staff Union (UASU) says members will on Monday camp at the finance department offices to demand their salaries after it emerged they are yet to receive their March salaries.
“Come Monday, if you have not received your salary, don’t work. Go to your various finance offices, wait there until you are paid,” UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga says.
The over 10,000 academic staff also want all vice chancellors appointed in 2012 leave office to allow a smooth transition.
According to Wasonga their continued stay is affecting the council's decision to begin the recruitment of new VCs.
“They have refused to leave. Therefore appointment of new VCs can not take place. What interest do they have in our universities? Why can’t they leave?”
Wasonga added that the Union is concerned as nothing is going on in public universities.
