Farmers from Uasin Gishu county have protested over change of agreement between two differing carbon credit companies.

Addressing press in Eldoret, the farmers noted that they signed the first agreement with Green Planet but another entity named Earth Tree has come up with another agreement with inserted questionable clauses.

Led by Manaseh Koech and Catheterine Jerotich, they said the two companies have taken copies of their title deeds and are worried that their land may be taken away.

They said they will not allow the officials of the two companies to visit their land until the second agreement is revoked and told the truth about the companies.

Carbon credits in Kenya have been reported to create inequalities and undermining interests of certain communities who have entered deals with local and international firms.
