Two women charged in Kilifi for marrying off Grade 6 girl

Two women were arraigned at the Malindi Law Court on Friday and charged with marrying off a minor in Kanagoni village in Magarini, Kilifi County.

Appearing before resident Magistrate Namnyak Nkurrunah, the two denied the charges and were released on Ksh.80,000 cash bail or a bond of Ksh.150,000 each.

According to documents presented in court, the two, together with others who were not in court, participated in marrying off a 13-year-old girl in Kanagoni, Magarini sub-county.

It is alleged that the two, who are the mothers of the sixth-grade girl and the bridegroom, were arrested while they were in the process of planning a wedding for the couple.

Kilifi County police commander, Fatma Hadi, has warned parents to stop the vice and instead send children to school.

The case will be mentioned on the 22nd of this month.
