Two suspects in Siaya murder case to become state witnesses

Jean Ogol, a primary school teacher and Henry Opiyo, who were arrested in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old man in Bondo, Siaya County will not face murder charges anymore.

This is after the investigation team failed to generate sufficient evidence that is linking them with the murder of the man who was identified as Erick Marwara.

The duo was arrested on August 11, 2024 following the death of Marwara, whose body was found hanging in Ogol’s unfinished house at Bar Kowino sub-location.

However, the suspects who were arraigned before Bondo Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti got reprieve after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) informed the court that the Criminal Investigation Officer will not be preferring murder charges against them.

The ODPP further explained that Ogol, a primary school head teacher and Opiyo will instead be state witnesses in the murder case where the key suspects are still at large.

Chief Magistrate Ogoti ordered that the cash bail of Ksh.300,000 which had earlier been granted to Ogol and Opiyo be given back to the duo following application by their lawyer Dola Indidis.
