A Makadara Magistrate’s Court has discharged two suspects who had been detained in connection with the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo Were.

Dennis Sewe Manyasi and Walter Owino Awino were released by Magistrate Irene Gichobi after the prosecution filed an application seeking their discharge, stating that investigations had been concluded.

There was jubilation outside the court as family and friends gathered to celebrate the release of the two, who had been in custody for the past three weeks awaiting possible murder charges.

Dennis Sewe Manyasi was arrested in his hideout in Kayole’s Njiru estate, while Walter Owino Awino — who was the MP’s driver — was apprehended in Nairobi’s city centre on June 7.

Investigators now say the two are likely to become state witnesses against other accused persons in the ongoing case.
