Two sentenced to 15 years in jail for killing co- worker after drinking spree

High Court in Eldoret has sentenced to 15 years in jail two casual labourers linked to the brutal killing of their co-worker during a chang’aa drinking spree.

Appearing before Justice Reuben Nyakundi, the duo, Daniel Kiprotich and Meshack Kipchirchir were convicted for the murder of Nicholas Tenai on September 28, 2019 at Baharini trading centre in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.

Nyakundi said the prosecution proved its case against the duo beyond reasonable doubt.

The court heard that the two assaulted their co-worker during a drinking spree where he died four days later at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) where he had been rushed in critical condition.

According to the Investigating Officer (IO) Simon Wanjala, the deceased explained to his co-workers that he had only Ksh. 200 and that once he clears his bill, he would spend the remaining of Ksh.170 on food for his family of three children he had left at home.

Wanjala said a scuffle ensued between the deceased and the two after which he was cornered while heading home and beaten.
