The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a death sentence against two men convicted of robbery with violence in Meru County.

In a statement on Tuesday, the DPP said Douglas Muriithi and Antony Mugendi were convicted over an attack in which a woman was robbed of Ksh5,700, 87 kilogrammes of sugar valued at Ksh13,050, and 17 kilogrammes of onions worth Ksh850—items valued at Ksh19,600.

The court heard the incident happened on September 6, 2024 at about 11.40pm in Maua Location, Igembe South Sub-County.

Prosecutors said the two attackers, armed with pangas, metal rods and timber frames, accosted the victim and stole the items.

The court further found that the victim was injured during the robbery.

The court ruled the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, convicted the two and sentenced them to death.

The case was prosecuted by Kelvin Gitonga, according to the DPP.
