Two men commit suicide in Embu North
Two men have committed suicide in two different villages in Embu North Sub County after what is suspected to be domestic squabbles on Sunday, December 25.
48-year- old, Lawrence Kinyua from Kibugu village was found dangling on a rope in his house while 78-year-old Elijah Michiki Gatimu from Itune village was found dangling on the ceiling of his house.
Confirming the incident, Embu North Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), Mark Wanjala said Kinyua had an arguement with his brother Sunday morning, about how they will share property left for them by their father. When his brother went back to check on him in the afternoon, he was found dangling on a rope.
Michiki on the other hand was also engaged in an argument with his mother before he walked out in anger. Later police say, when his brother went to his house to ask him about Christmas preparations, he found him dead.
Police say the two incidents are an indication of increase in the rate of suicide among men due to domestic squabbles.
“Kinyua was well but due to family differences which could have been ironed out he decided to take away his life by hanging himself”, Wanjala said.
He said that the men did not leave any note behind to state why they had decided to commit suicide.
Wanjala called upon church leaders and elders to mediate in family disputes with a view to decreasing cases of suicide in Embu north.
He also called upon families to meet and iron out squabbles.
