Two arrested for attempting to extort Ksh.2M from State corporation director
The suspects demanded the money in exchange for withdrawing a court petition accusing the Director General of embezzling public funds.
According to EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, the arrests occurred during an operation at Bonds Restaurant in Nairobi on Friday.
The suspects were apprehended after receiving Ksh 1.7 million, a portion of the demanded Ksh 2 million.
The Commission observed that the suspects are part of a growing trend of people presenting themselves as public-spirited citizens or advocates for good governance.
These individuals frequently file legal petitions against government officials, only to demand bribes to dismiss the cases.
The suspects were first processed at the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station before being transferred to the Kilimani Police Station.
They have since been released on police bail while investigations continue.
The EACC has reiterated its commitment to prosecuting individuals involved in extortion schemes against senior government officials and private citizens.
