Two arrested as NACADA nets drugs worth Ksh.2.9M seized in Siaya

The National Authority for the Campaign
Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) on Sunday arrested two people and seized
contraband goods in Usigu, Siaya County.
NACADA officials led by Nicholas Kosgei
raided Nyamonye market in a crackdown that resulted in the seizure of bhang,
several cartons of assorted illicit brews, and contraband cigarettes, all
valued at Ksh.2.9 million.
Mr Kosigei
said they laid the ambush in the business promise, rental houses, and the
homestead of a notorious drug dealer in Nyamonye market, following a tip-off
from members of the public.
“We managed to confiscate 4,600 sticks and
11 brooms of bhang, 8 cartons of export cigarettes and 237 cartons of second-generation
liquor,” he said.
Four cash safes believed to
contain proceeds from the illegal business were also recovered during the
multi-agency operation.
The two suspects arrested include the
main suspect, Francis Ochieng, and Everline Atieno Amungu. They were taken to Bondo Police Station, awaiting arraignment on Monday.
The seizure and arrest came just a week
after a similar operation that saw drugs worth Ksh.8.7 million nabbed in Kisii County.
