Tuju leads 50KM walk to raise funds for community ICT centre
Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju led hundreds in a 50
kilometer walk to raise funds for the establishment of a community ICT centre at Ralingo village in Rarieda sub-county.
The 8 hour-walk began from Kisumu town at 3.00 am Sunday and
ended at Ralingo village, Rarieda sub-county in Siaya County at around 11.00
am.
Speaking shortly after arriving at the newly built Ralingo
ACK Church where they also commissioned the ICT Center, Tuju stated that the
project seeks to enable the young people to earn a living through working
online.
He revealed that the Ralingo Community ICT project will be
connected to fast speed internet from Starlink and that it will provide a
robust framework for bridging the digital divide, enabling the learners to
acquire skills for earning money online.
Tuju was joined by Siaya governor James Orengo and Rarieda
MP Otiende Amollo who welcomed the project and assured of their commitment to
work with the former CS to ensure success of the project.
Orengo said that they are also going to replicate the
project in other parts of Siaya County owing to the potential online employment
opportunities that it will create for the young people.
On his part, Otiende Amollo revealed that in supporting the
project, the first ICT Hub that shall be constructed in Rarieda sub-county
under the NG-CDF shall be put up at Ralingo to house the new community ICT
center that will temporarily be housed at the ACK church.
