Tuesday voter turnout registered at 64.6pc, says Chebukati
IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati said during a press briefing on Wednesday that this is based on voting records transmitted only through the commission’s KIEMS kits.
“The voter turnout based on the KIEMS kits which were functional during the process of voting is 64.6 per cent,” said Chebukati.
The IEBC boss stated that this represents 14,164,561 out of the 22,120,448 registered voters.
He further noted that the electoral body was in the process of compiling records to get the total number of voters who participated in Tuesday's exercise, including the ones who voted using the manual voter registers.
“We have areas where the commission allowed the use of manual registers and we shall be able to give the exact voter turnout when the data is transmitted and compute the total voter turnout,” he said.
On Tuesday, IEBC announced that 84 polling stations in Makueni county's Kibwezi West constituency had been approved to use the manual register.
Another 154 polling stations in Kakamega County, specifically in the Matungu, Mumias West, and Mumias East constituencies, would use manual registers as well.
At the same time, Chebukati confirmed that the commission had received 97.65% of Form 34A's as of 2:30pm Wednesday.
He said that the total number of polling stations that have submitted their forms are 45,141 from a total of 46,229.
Chebukati however noted that the forms are only for presidential tallies and that they do not have the physical forms as they received the submissions in image forms.
"Results transmission of the forms from polling stations is ongoing and we will address you as we receive more," he said.
Chebukati went on to affirm that the commission is upholding transparency and that all numbers recorded in the forms are the ones to be used in announcing the Presidential winner.
