Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia has directed all Sub-county Directors of Education to vet and nominate centre managers, supervisors and invigilators ahead of the commencement of national examinations in October.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will commence on October 22 and conclude on November 22 while the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will begin on October 28 and end on November 20.

The Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) examinations have been slated for between October 28 and October 31, 2024.

In a circular dated August 30, Macharia directed the education Sub-county directors to comply with the directive and submit necessary details about successful candidates, on the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) portal, by October 11.

"In preparation for the administration of these examinations and assessments, KNEC will require the details of all the centre managers, supervisors and invigilators who will be engaged in the activity," she said.

"This is to request you to identify, vet and nominate the centre managers, supervisors, and invigilators to be engaged in the administration of these examinations and assessments, deploy them into the CP2 system by 11th October 2024, through the link/URL: http://cp2.knec.ac.ke."

Macharia further urged the Sub-county education directors to ensure, among other things, that the successful candidates are selected in accordance with specific guidelines.

She emphasized the importance of appointing teachers who are not only qualified but employed and registered by the TSC. Additionally, she instructed that supervisors and invigilators be assigned to examination centres where they have no personal interest.

"Centre managers will be required to verify supervisors and invigilators posted in their centres by confirming their details and workstation. They will be required to take attendance on a daily basis; The teachers in schools with learners of Stage-Based Pathway will invigilate their own learners. For every 10 learners, there should be one invigilator. These invigilators will be required to sign the declaration form like other centres. No supervisor or Centre Manager will be deployed for KILEA Centres," Macharia said.

"One supervisor should be deployed for every two hundred candidates. No supervisor should be deployed for hosted centres; For every twenty candidates, only one invigilator should be deployed. You are required to deploy invigilators to hosted centres based on the number of candidates in the examination/assessments centre."

According to Macharia, hosting centres must have their own centre managers who will be expected to collect and return examination materials from the container.

She added that supervisors and invigilators should not be assigned to a centre where they have served in the past two consecutive years, highlighting that TSC's CP2 system has been set up to prevent such teachers from being selected and deployed.

"Only supervisors and invigilators who have registered in the cp2 system will be deployed to manage the 2024 national examination and assessments hence have their claims processed. Supervisors and invigilators for KCSE examination must be secondary school teachers," she said.

"KCSE supervisors will be rotated on a weekly basis. The outgoing supervisor must prepare brief handing over notes for the incoming supervisor; Sub-counties that have a challenge with recruitment should write to si@knec.ac.ke indication the reason and assistance will be provided."
