TSC announces 20,000 JSS internship slots; How to apply

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 20,000 internship posts for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) teachers to support the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). 

In a notice posted on the commission's website, TSC explained that the 12-month programme will seek to provide unemployed teachers with the practical experience and exposure to the work environment. 

The JSS interns will be paid a monthly stipend of Ksh.20,000 that will be subject to statutory deductions. Upon completing the program, the teachers will be awarded a certificate. 

Interested teachers are required to submit their applications online through the TSC website before November 4, 2024. 

To qualify for recruitment, the teachers must be Kenyan citizens, be registered with the Commission and should be a holder of at least a Diploma in Education with a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus). 

All applicants will be required to present original academic and professional certificates comprising a copy of Teacher Registration Certificate, a copy of National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (where applicable), a copy of the National Identity Card (ID) or Passport. 

Other documents include two colour passport size photographs, a copy of Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN) and a Personal Accident Insurance to cover for personal risks during the internship period. 

Further, the applicants must be unemployed and should not have previously been employed by the Commission on permanent and pensionable terms. 

TSC notified all applicants that successful candidates will be posted to serve to any Junior Secondary School in the county where they were interviewed or in any part of the Country where the vacancy exists.

"The selection of Candidates will strictly be on merit and based on the number of vacancies per County," the notice read in part. 

How to Apply

  1. Click www.tsc.go.ke to visit the TSC official website. 
  2. Under the Careers tab, click Teachers and Recruitment of Teachers. 
  3. You will be required to login through the TSC Online recruitment portal by keying in your TSC Number, ID number and contact number. 
  4. Fill in the information and submit the required documents. 
  5. Click submit to complete the application
