Tropical storm IALY dissipates after hitting Kenyan coast
The weatherman had predicted that the storm, which resulted in one fatality, would weaken within a day.
In an update from Kenya MET, it was reported that IALY had maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h (averaged over 10 minutes) and maximum gusts of 75 km/h, with an estimated central pressure of 1002 hPa at its last observation.
"As of May 22 at 3:16 p.m. EAT, IALY has dissipated, with the system filling up during the day. It will be remembered as the most northerly Tropical Cyclone, reaching 4.7°S," Kenya MET stated on X.
Residents in Kilifi County had been urged to take precautions after the tropical storm hit.
Kilifi North Deputy County Commissioner Samuel Mutisya advised mariners to avoid deep-sea areas and warned locals against seeking shelter under trees due to the dangers posed by the storm.
The storm affected several areas, including the county commissioner's offices, where strong winds destroyed multiple vehicles.
Elsewhere, an Early Childhood Education (ECDE) pupil in Kaloleni, Kilifi County has died after he was hit by a flying iron sheet caused by strong winds witnessed at the Coast.
The roof of Gogo Raruhe mosque injured 6 children from Gogo Raruhe, killing one. The rest were treated and discharged.
