The National Transport and Safety Authority
(NTSA) on Sunday apprehended excess passengers aboard public service vehicles in Thika, Kiambu County.
In a post on X, NTSA stated that motorists should
avoid boarding overloaded vehicles to prevent inconveniences.
“To avoid any inconveniences, do not board
an overloaded vehicle,” the transport and safety authority said.
NTSA shared a video showing the passengers being offloaded from matatus as police directed them to board police an awaiting police vehicle to be taken to the police station.
The latest came after NTSA impounded a
14-seater matatu that was carrying 31 students from Tharaka Nithi County on Saturday.
The vehicle driver managed to escape
arrest, leaving the students in the vehicle.
NTSA also arrested several
pedestrians who failed to use the designated walkways and footbridges while
crossing roads in Nairobi on Tuesday.
The government has been making efforts to
reduce the increasing number of road accidents in Kenya.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba
Murkomen announced new measures to curb the surge in road accidents, including
a directive for the return of NTSA officers to the roads on March 19.
