Video: Transport paralysed as floods in Kenya wreak havoc

The ongoing floods in Kenya have paralysed transport in several parts of the country with vehicles even being submerged.

Motorists have either been stranded for several hours or had to cut short their journey as routes are rendered impassable.

“I left the house at around 7 in the morning as I am expected to be at work by 7:30am but now I am stranded. I am not sure how I will get to work tomorrow and what my boss will say,” one lady said.

Some roads have been cut off making the transport situation in the country a nightmare.

This even as the weatherman indicates that the current weather pattern may persist.

In Ruai, a Probox vehicle was completely submerged with only its side mirror peeping from below the water. The fate of its occupants is unknown.

A spot check by CitizenTV showed traffic at a standstill in Nairobi on Tuesday morning.

Motorists were seen trying to navigate through flooded roads which slowed down their movement.

Commuters in one 14-seater matatu were lucky to get out of the vehicle unhurt as their journey was interrupted due to the knee-high waters that prevented the driver from proceeding.

“We were inside the van in the morning when it was swept away by the floods. It is by God’s grace that we managed to escape,” Mr. Mwangi Thananga, one of the passengers told Citizen TV.
