Transport CS nominee Chirchir’s wealth grew by Ksh.26.7M in 21 months
Roads and Transport Cabinet
Secretary nominee Davis Chirchir has declared that his net worth increased
by about Ksh.27.6 million between 2022 and the present.
Chirchir made the revelation when he appeared
before Parliament’s Committee on Appointments for vetting on Friday.
The CS nominee told the committee that his
current wealth stands at Ksh.509.8 million, an increase from the Ksh.482 million he disclosed during his vetting for the Energy ministry in October 2022.
“There is a small addition from last time…It
is Ksh.509,800,000. I think there’s been some small growth of about Ksh.27.6
million,” he told committee Chairman and National Assembly Speaker Moses
Wetangula.
His wealth however came into question when
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah pointed out that one of the properties he had
listed as being worth Ksh.95 million in Spring Valley is actually worth a lot
more than that.
Chirchir,
during the vetting also revealed that - if approved for the position - his
ministry will make public the details of the proposal to lease the Jomo Kenyatta
International Airport (JKIA) to Adani Holdings Limited.
He
explained that the government will develop a framework outlined in a term sheet
and determine key details such as how the deal will benefit the State.
