Tiaty MP Kamket faults formation of new sub-counties in Baringo

Tiaty Member of parliament William Kamket has said the newly created sub counties of Suguta and Ilchamus in disputed areas is a threat to the current prevailing peace.

Speaking in Tiaty on Saturday, Kamket said there are some roque government officials who have mislead the acting Cabinet Secretary of Interior, Musalia Mudavadi in creation of the sub counties citing that such move can create violence in an area that had enjoyed peace for about an year.

Kamket further said they are now seeking court intervention to quash the gazzetted subcounty. Suguta subcounty, with its headquarters is Kapedo has been experiencing unending conflict over boundary dispute between the Turkana and Pokot communities.

He said Ilchamus subcounty, whose headquarters will be in Mukutani has also been disputed.

Mudavadi established 578 new administrative units to meet the growing population growth across the country.

Mudavadi, in his role as Interior CS, gazetted the new units comprising 27 Sub-Counties, 59 divisions, 170 locations and 322 sub-locations.

The units, according to the CS, will improve Kenyans' access to government services and address security issues in the respective areas.
