Three people die of acute diarrhoea in Kisumu

Three people have been confirmed dead following an outbreak of
acute diarrhoeal disease in Kobong’o village of Nyando, Kisumu County.
Kobong’o sub location Assistant
Chief Samuel Orage said the first death was reported at the end of last week,
while the other two were reported on Sunday and Monday this week.
Chief Orage said the three
include a one-year-old baby and a 13-year-old girl who died at home, while a
27-year-old man died in a private hospital.
He said all the affected
complained of vomiting and diarrhoea, adding that a woman with similar symptoms
was, however, treated and discharged.
Chief Orage also noted that the
county government has, for the past week, been giving drugs to locals in the
affected areas and also treating water points.
Kisumu County Health CECM
Dr. Gregory Ganda confirmed the outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea cases from
the village, dismissing Cholera reports.
Dr. Ganda said the county
is waiting for tests to ascertain the causes of death, adding that Cholera
culture test results take 24 hours.
