Three men who allegedly visited marathon world record-holder Kelvin Kiptum's home days before his fatal road crash have been arrested.

Citizen Digital has established that the three were apprehended on Wednesday morning and taken to Iten police station where they are being held in custody.

They are set to be grilled by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

24-year-old Kiptum was driving from Kaptagat to Eldoret in the Rift Valley on the night of February 11 when his car veered off the road and hit a tree.

Kiptum together with his coach Gervais Hakizimana died instantly due to the impact of the crash.

The famous runner burst onto the marathon scene when he ran a world record 2:00:35 in Chicago in October, slicing 34 seconds off Kipchoge's previous record.

He was just 23 at the time, and competing in only his third marathon.

Kiptum also won his other two efforts -- his debut in Valencia in 2022 and a follow-up in London the following year -- recording three of the seven fastest marathon times in history.

The State has vowed to give the world marathon record holder a hero's send-off.
