Three children killed after motorcycle hit lorry in Kirinyaga

Three families in Kirinyaga County are mourning the loss of three children who died in a road accident on Monday morning after the motorcycle they were riding hit a lorry at Kibingoti along the Sagana-Karatina road.

Kirinyaga West police commander Moses Koskei said Alex Mwangi, John Macharia and David Muchiri were heading towards Karatina from Sagana when they hit the lorry from the rear.

They were rushed to Karatina Hospital, where two were pronounced dead on arrival. The other died while receiving treatment.

"The three sustained multiple head injuries due to the impact," Koskei noted.

Relatives said that Muriithi finished high school in 2024 and was waiting to join university. Macharia was a Form Three student, while Muchiri also completed his high school studies last year.

Their bodies were taken to Karatina mortuary.

The incident happened just five days after three learners from Kairegi village were involved in a road accident at Gatugura along the Kutus-Kimunye road.

Two other children died two months ago after a motorcycle they had hired rolled at Ngurubani Town in Mwea.

Koskei urged parents to keep minors off motorcycles to tame such incidents.
