Those saying 'Ruto must go' are looking for headlines: Gladys Boss

Speaking on Daybreak, Shollei alleged that Ruto's adversaries are attempting to sell propaganda through the viral 'Ruto must go' trend.

The hashtag has gone viral with Kenyans expressing their disaffection over the current regime and even chanting the slogan at recent social events.  

"When people mention Ruto must go, they're trying to make headlines because the only way to remove a president is through an election or impeachment and you need to have the grounds for it," Shollei stated. 

Further, the lawmaker dispelled recent claims by Tiaty MP William Kamket, who threatened to extend Ruto's term limits amid growing dissatisfaction. 

On January 5, Kamket warned those criticising Ruto's regime that they know what it takes to extend a president's term limit; referencing former President Daniel Moi's 24-year tenure in office. 

"As a lawyer, I know extending the term limit requires a constitutional amendment through a referendum. I think they're trying to make much of it, it is talk people in the village will buy but I don't think someone who knows how the constitution is structured would buy," Shollei stated. 

"This is what you say when you're moving crowds. I don't think I would take it seriously." 

Ruto, once regarded as the saviour of the political masses, has been criticised for oppressing the electorate that voted him into office.

This catapulted into the nationwide protests last year that culminated in the breach of Parliament by thousands of protestors. This led to Ruto's regime promising to listen to the people's cries and heed their concerns. 

Months later, after the dust settled, some of the leaders in Ruto's circle have returned to their notorious ways, echoing past reckless declarations that almost plunged the country into chaos.
