Thika shooting probe: MP Kagombe among those to surrender guns to DCI
This is, as surveyors from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning spent the better part of Wednesday installing beacons to demarcate the land ready for market construction.
The skirmishes left one person dead and several others with multiple injuries.
DCI investigators indicate that all firearms present during the Kiganjo village will undergo a mandatory ballistic examination at the DCI headquarters, in an effort to establish who fatally shot David Nudati, the 26-year-old man who died in the melee.
Among the firearm holders present at the event were uniformed police officers and several bodyguards attached to MPs who are now at the centre of the ongoing investigations.
The MPs present during the fracas were Majority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wa, Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe and his Gatundu North counterpart Elijah Njoroge Kururia.
According to sources close to the investigations, Kagombe, a licensed firearm holder who allegedly shot in the air during the confrontations, will also be required to surrender his gun once he is discharged from hospital after reportedly suffering injuries.
At the disputed market, site surveyors from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning were busy installing beacons to demarcate the land ready for the market construction which is expected to commence on Friday.
Ksh.54 million has been set aside for the construction of the market with residents of Kamenu Ward where the market is being put up calling for sobriety as the work begins
A heavy contingent of General Service Unit officers was deployed at the site and its neighbourhood and the area has been condoned off.
