Thika Law Courts brought to standstill after terror alert
Operations
at Thika Law Courts were on Wednesday morning brought to a halt for several
hours following reports of a possible terror attack targeting the institution.
Confirming
the incident, Thika Law Courts Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo said that court
officials contacted law enforcement agencies immediately after getting wind of
the potential terror alert.
“We
got information this morning at Thika Law Courts of a security threat which we
immediately reported to the authorities,” said Magistrate Atambo.
“The
security agencies came soon after and they have been on the ground since
morning but of course terror threats are always a subject of concern.”
While
security agencies were inspecting the area in a bid to validate the
authenticity of the threat, all court proceedings slated for Wednesday were
conducted virtually.
The
incident comes just days after the United States Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) urged operators of aircraft flying over Kenya to exercise
caution because the jihadist group Al-Shabaab poses a threat to aviation.
