Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured the church that the government respects their independence as it enhances collaboration between the two institutions in developing the country.

Prof. Kindiki said there is no contest between the church and State, saying the administration considers the clergy as partners in the struggle against vices bedeviling the country.

“The church and State are separate. The vision, objectives and priorities of the state are completely aligned with those of the church. We see the church as a companion and a complementary institution that helps us in the struggle to better the lives of Kenyans,” he said.

The Deputy President spoke on Tuesday afternoon at the Africa Revival Agenda Conference held at KICC in Nairobi. The conference brought together over 4.500 pastors and ministers from the 47 counties.

The DP said Kenya remains on the right track to prosperity because of the prayers and intercession by thousands of preachers always praying for the nation.

“Through your prayers our nation is in a better place. I pledge the support of the government for your ministry. We will continue to work with you in the fighting against social ills facing our country,” he added.

Prof. Kindiki also called on the church not to shy away from pointing out areas of improvement saying the government is not averse to criticism.

“We are thankful for praying for us and the government. Please correct us when we go astray. What we plead is for you to correct us in love.

We are a listening government. We will adjust where we are not doing well and will incorporate your views,” he emphasized.

At the same time, the DP thanked the church for their complementary role in development saying far-flung areas have been beneficiaries of their interventions at the time of need.

“The church has been at the centre of nurturing and building and fostering resilience among communities not just by preaching the gospel but through humanitarian and relief programs in the deepest parts of the country,” he indicated.

Further, the DP promised the clergy the administration will help them solve pending issues including lack of title deeds for their places of worship.
