The Instruments of Power that Uhuru has handed over to President William Ruto
Kenya’s fourth President Uhuru
Kenyatta has officially handed over the instruments of power to the new
President, William Ruto.
On Tuesday, September 13, Uhuru inspected
his last parade, after which William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua took
oath of office.
Ruto took two oaths of office, administered
by Judiciary registrar Anne Amadi, in the presence of Attorney General Paul Kihara.
The president and his deputy then signed
certificates, after with Ruto officially received the instruments of power from
his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.
President Ruto was officially handed the Kenyan Constitution, which he swore to uphold in his five-year tenure.
After Ruto received the Constitution, the aide-de-camp who was standing behind Uhuru switched his position to become Ruto’s aide, indicating the change of guard.
Presidential Ceremonial Sword
Uhuru Kenyatta handed over the Presidential
ceremonial sword to William Ruto, to signify that he is now the Commander-in-Chief
of the armed forces.
The sword is made of stainless steel and is coated with gold. It will signify Ruto’s role in protecting the country.
After receiving the Instruments of Power,
Ruto, Uhuru, Gachagua took a photo at the Kasarani dais.
They were later joined by their spouses
Margaret, Rachel, and Pastor Dorcas.
Chief of Defence Forces Robert Kibochi
escorted Ruto to his seat, and what followed was a prayer, and the National
Anthem.
The 5th president was then
accorded a 21 gun salutes.
