Teen succumbs after stabbing by police officer at Bondo hospital
The sickly boy succumbed on Tuesday morning, a day after the unfortunate incident.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday night, when a police officer, who was also admitted to the hospital, went crazy and attacked other patients.
The officer, from Aram Police Station in Rarieda Sub-County, had been admitted to the male ward the day before.
According to hospital management, distressing screams were heard in the ward around midnight, prompting nurses and the clinical officer on duty to rush in and investigate.
When they arrived, they discovered that the police officer had already stabbed the 14-year-old boy in the neck and a 20-year-old patient in the chest.
The officer was reportedly approaching a third patient when medical personnel raised an alarm, prompting the intervention of additional staff and security guards, who were able to subdue him.
The officer was still wielding a knife at the time.
Bondo Sub-County Police Commander Robert Aboki confirmed the incident, while Siaya County Police Commander Serah Koki said the officer was turned over to other law enforcement officers who arrived on the scene.
The matter is currently being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to determine the next steps.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old patient who was stabbed in the chest has undergone an X-ray examination and is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
