Technical University of Kenya lecturers down tools over unpaid salaries
Lecturers and staff at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK)
have officially started their strike after the seven-day notice period expired.
The dons say they physically notified Parliament, the Treasury,
and the Ministry of Education but they have continuously ignored their
warnings.
Some of their grievances include the non-payment of salaries
since September, and the alleged failure by the institution to remit
statutory deductions, including NHIF, NSSF, and SACCO contributions.
Additionally, there is a reported loss of pension funds worth
Ksh.5 billion, among other issues.
They have vowed to continue with the strike until all their
demands are fulfilled and the agreed Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is
reached.
