Suspected SIM card fraud mastermind arrested in Ruiru

Detectives in Nairobi have arrested a suspected SIM card fraudster and recovered numerous lines and assorted mobile phones.

Daniel Wangombe Ndungu, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the illegal acts of phone impersonation and fraudulent registration of SIM cards, was nabbed during an operation in Membley, Ruiru, after police officers intercepted his car.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, sleuths acting on a tip-off from the public flagged Wangombe’s car, and after a quick search, assorted mobile phones and SIM cards were confiscated.

“Following on tips, the detectives executed an operation in Ruiru Membley area, successfully intercepting the suspect who was behind the wheel of a motor vehicle KBP 731D Nissan Salon,” the DCI stated.

“Upon searching the vehicle, the detectives recovered 6 Safaricom SIM cards, 7 Airtel SIM cards, 2 Telkom SIM cards and assorted mobile phones.”

The suspect was escorted to the DCI Serious Crime Unit headquarters for processing pending arraignment.
