A man believed to be the prime suspect behind the trafficking
of 112.8 kgs of bhang estimated to be worth Ksh.3.384 million in Kisii has been
arrested and arraigned.
36-year-old Samuel Omondi Audi was nabbed in Kibera, Nairobi,
days after escaping a police dragnet in Kisii where, together with his two
accomplices, they were trafficking the Cannabis Sativa drug.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),
the three men were flagged down by sleuths on July 10 on the Kisii-Migori
highway onboard a speeding Nissan Xtrail but refused to stop, leading to a
police chase.
The car then skidded off to a ditch and the occupants took off,
leaving the vehicle.
“While on routine patrol along the Kisii-Migori highway, the
officers spotted a speeding Nissan Xtrail heading towards Kisii town but when
signalled to stop, the vehicle initially slowed down and then bolted like a bat
out of hell, running over spikes at the roadblock,” the DCI stated.
“In a high-octane chase, the officers pursued the suspect’s
vehicle, which eventually skidded off the road and landed in a ditch. Three
occupants fled the scene, and vanished into a nearby thicket leaving behind the
vehicle.”
The DCI noted that a later search of the vehicle discovered
several sacks of bhang of the aforementioned value.
Detectives hence swung into action and, after nearly two weeks
of search for the suspects, Audi was apprehended following a tip-off.
He has since been arraigned and detained as a manhunt for the
other two suspects is underway.
