Suspect in Wells Fargo manager murder shot dead in attempted gun fight with police
One
more suspect linked to the murder of slain Wells Fargo Human Resource manager Willis
Ayieko was on Thursday shot dead by police in Kisumu after he was found at a
guest house within the lakeside city.
Nyanza
Regional Police Commander Patrick Tito said that the suspect, whose name he
withheld, cocked a pistol and took aim at the officers, prompting them to open
fire.
Police
believe that the suspect is part of a carjacking ring whose two members were
arrested on Thursday when police thwarted a planned highway robbery and
recovered Ayieko's stolen pistol.
Tito added that police
are in pursuit of more people linked to the heinous murder.
Ayieko’s body was found dumped near a stream in Nyamninia sub-location within Gem Yala, Siaya County on
October 24, 2024.
He had reportedly gone
missing on Friday, October 18, 2024, after attending a burial in North Gem
location.
On Tuesday, October 22,
his vehicle was found abandoned near a petrol station in Sabatia, Vihiga
County.
Police have since apprehended three suspects in connection to the incident, among them Victor
Okoth Ouma who was arrested in Nairobi’s Dandora estate and presented at the
Siaya Law Courts on Wednesday.
Investigators were granted 21 days to detain the suspect as part of their probe. Police said Ouma
was placed at the crime scene through forensic analysis.
He is also said to have made transactions via
Ayieko’s mobile phone; the money was later withdrawn.
The suspect informed on his accomplices to
investigators, who laid an ambush on their vehicle along the Siaya-Luanda
highway on Tuesday night.
