Suspect in murder of Wells Fargo HR manager Willis Ayieko detained for 21 days
Detectives are searching for more suspects
accused of abducting and killing Wells Fargo Human Resource manager Willis
Ayieko.
Among the three include Victor Okoth Ouma who
was arrested in Nairobi’s Dandora estate and was presented at the Siaya Law Courts
on Wednesday.
Investigators were granted 21 days to detain
the suspect as part of their probe. Police said Ouma was placed at the crime scene
through forensic analysis.
He is also said to have made transactions via
Ayieko’s mobile phone; the money was later withdrawn.
The suspect informed on his accomplices to
investigators, who laid an ambush on their vehicle along the Siaya-Luanda
highway on Tuesday night.
Police ordered the vehicle to stop but the driver
defied orders. This resulted in a fierce shoot out among the occupants and the officers.
After a moment, the vehicle swerved off the
road as two male suspects escaped, but with gunshot wounds. Police said a woman
who was part of the gang was left at the scene injured and was arrested.
In the vehicle, a Ceska pistol belonging to
the late Ayieko was recovered. Investigators pursued the matter further,
leading to the arrest of another woman.
Upon her arrest, several exhibits were
recovered among them police boots ad jungle uniforms were recovered.
“We made some arrests last night and we are
still pursuing the other gang members. We also recovered a car and pistol…we
are ongoing with the probe,” Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Amin
Mohamed said.
Investigators say they are still pursuing
other members of the gang believed to be six or seven in number, and operating
along the Siaya-Luanda-Busia road.
An autopsy on Ayieko’s body revealed that the
Wells Fargo HR manager died due to injuries on his head caused by blunt force
trauma.
The deceased went missing after attending a
burial in Siaya, and his body was later discovered at a river on the border of
Siaya and Kakamega counties.
