Suspect in Mombasa blogger's abduction, sodomy case arrested in Lunga Lunga
One of the prime
suspects in the September 12 abduction and subsequent sodomy of blogger Bruce
John Khajira aka Chawa - 001 has been arrested at the Lunga Lunga border while
trying to flee to Tanzania.
The suspect, Omar Ali
Mohamed alias Nyanya, had been on the run since reportedly partaking in the
diabolical act.
His arrest is a
culmination of days and nights of vigilance by duty-bound detectives working
jointly with the Immigration Department, who were privy to the plans by the
masterminds to sneak out of the country all those implicated in the perversion.
In the painstaking
investigation conducted by a select team of DCI HQ detectives, Mohamed was
forensically placed at both the primary and secondary scenes of the incident,
besides being in constant communication with other known perpetrators before,
during and after the incident.
Notably, detectives at
the Digital Forensics Lab identified the motor vehicle make Nissan Note grey in
colour and registration number KDQ 394C, in which the victim was bundled from
his house to the scene.
The vehicle had been
hired by Mohamed on August 20, 2024, and returned on September 12 in the evening
after the fiendish gang completed their hellish mission. The car has since been
intercepted and impounded
Crime researchers were
also able to forensically place the said car at the primary scene (where the
victim was sexually assaulted) at a County Government of Mombasa construction
site within Bonje Area for about 2 hours, before revving to Mwakirunge area
where the victim was dumped.
Several accomplices have since been identified and have been urged by the DCI to surrender themselves.
Four individuals have since been arraigned at
the Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa County and charged with the blogger's abduction
and sodomy.
Abdul Athman, Violet Adera, Esther Muthoni and
Haji Babu, are accused of abducting and sodomising the Mombasa-based blogger on
September 12, 2024.
"They were charged with conspiracy to
commit a felony and abduction with intent to confine," the Office of the
Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said in a previous statement on X.
Additionally, Hassan and Babu were charged with
gang rape and assault with intent to cause actual bodily harm.
They denied the charges before Senior Resident
Magistrate Robert Mbogo.
The suspects similarly applied for bail but the
prosecution team, led by Anthony Musyoka, opposed the plea on grounds that the
quartet was a flight risk.
The blogger alleges that a group of about 20 county officers abducted him at
his home in Bamburi, assaulted and sodomised him at Miritini area before
dumping him near the Mwakirunge dumpsite.
He claims that his attackers broke into his
house and demanded that he accompany them to an unknown place to apologize for
criticizing the Mombasa County Government.
